An FT article hit me in the nuts today. I shared it with some friends and most agreed that this trend is already showing itself in Asia, while the article states this as a fact in London now.
The title reads : “In search of the missing office minority – the over-fifties”. Apparently, we hardly get to see anyone over fifty in the workplace nowadays, unlike the good old days where people worked well into retirement age. It seems that the over-fifties are a dying breed in the office and “old” people continue to disappear from the work scene.
As we live longer, the irony of the whole situation seems tragic. If we have at least 20 to 30 more years to go, then where do we go from here? I happen to be on the wrong side of fifty very soon and this thought scares me. As we move gracefully into the sunset, what comes next?
