A week of birthday celebrations for me. A milestone too, as my personal blog reaches its 3rd-year of existence.
A group of good friends decided that we should have an overnight trip to nearby Batam on Tues. Previously, we have had a day trip there and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves with the cheap massages and food. This time around, we just did more of it, completing more than 6 hours of facial, body and foot massages within a 30 hours period. Prices were much cheaper and they even had a weekday discount of up to 40%… 2 hours of foot and body treatment was just SGD 24!
In between, we had lots of seafood and drinks. We sat in an open food court for the rest of the night enjoying the cool evening breeze and ice cold beer. It feels like a throwback to S’pore 50 years ago. After a great lunch on Wed, we returned home feeling recharged and refreshed.
The following morning was a full day of quality family activities. We had our usual family gym morning following by a nice Peking duck lunch. Then we tried axe throwing for the first time at a place called the Axe Factor. It was de-stressing and helped to release our inner angst, focusing our energies at the bullseye with a deadly weapon in our hands.
The day ended with pre-dinner drinks at a bespoke bar called The Old Man before a Spanish meal at the new restaurant called Olivia. The people running it was ex-elBulii and Catalunya staff that presented a lovely list of tapas selections.
I am indeed blessed and grateful to have family and friends together to celebrate my birthday week. My younger son has the same birth date too and we have been having our double birthday celebrations for the last 18 years. It makes one reflect on what we have which we should be thankful for. Life has its ups and downs but we should be celebrating our ups more often and not dwell on the down times. I renew my life motto again, to stay happy and healthy!
